Main objective
EU-CLIMT explores the ways climatization influences EU governance and impacts the power of institutional actors. It utilizes maritime transport as an example to analyze how the expansion of climate targets and policies is influencing one of the least regulated activities in general.
The research results of the project will contribute to a very current situation and topic and will attempt to explain how the EU moves towards the achievement of its climate targets.
Three specific objectives
EU-CLIMT revolves around three main objectives, bringing in aspects that have not been extensively analyzed so far. It emphasizes three levels: (a) the internal institutional dimension, (b) the intra-EU impacts of newly introduced policies, and (c) the external level of both EU action and the stances of third parties.
The first specific objective is to explore how supranational institutions can expand their competence by promoting climate policies.
The second specific objective is to explore how the continuously emboldened ‘climatic’ system affects the key stakeholders implementing the new policies.
The third specific objective is to explore how the greener EU maritime policy affects its diplomatic positions at the international level, whether they will lead to a more robust overall EU climate diplomacy in maritime affairs and how this action is perceived by third countries.
